Brothers and Sisters:

Today in our Cure we welcome members from  St. Judes Church, Stony Hill as we celebrate an exchange of Clergy, Choirs and servers throughout the St. Andrew Deanery.

I am excited about the many things that this month of May has in store for us.  The chorus that expresses best my excitement is the popular one, “We are together again, just praising the Lord, and I am going to suggest that we sing this chorus every time we gather for worship this month.  Pay attention to the lines, “Something good is going to happen, something good is in store.”  Do we believe that?  If we did, we would be excited.

Let us listen to ourselves as we pray the collect appointed for today, “Almighty God, whom truly to know is everlasting life: Grant us so perfectly to know your Son Jesus Christ to be the way, the truth and the life.”  To know Christ is to know ”the way, and the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). The words, actions, and miracles of Jesus should give Christians confidence to trust that He will make good on His promises. Among those are His guarantee that He is preparing to come for us, so we can be where He is.  Do we believe that?

Take a little time and search out some of the glorious promises of scripture, which are intended to assure us of God’s promises.

Note carefully that our prayer ends with the great hope, “that we may steadfastly follow His steps in the way that leads to eternal life.  Our God is an extravagant God, always willing to give us not only what we ask for, but abundantly more than we ask or even imagine.  Do we believe that?

As we look at our planned activities this May month, our celebrations for the children in our local congregations and in our Deanery, Patronal Festival at St. John the Evangelist, our Rally at the Church of the Transfiguration, Sunday School Festival, our Healing Conference on the last weekend, and the numerous other activities not mentioned here, in which we will be involved, can we say with the confidence arising from our faith in our Sovereign God, “Something good is going to happen, something good is in store.”

Let us therefore stand on the tip-toe of expectation that God is going to abundantly bless us, and commit ourselves wholeheartedly to the task God has given us.
